Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It is a busy time for Newburyport city government. The mayor presents the FY15 budget this evening which begins the budget season. Budget workshops are scheduled for May 5th, 29th, June 2nd, 3rd, and 5th (Check the meeting schedule on the city website for confirmation in case there are any last minute changes) at 6:30 in chambers. The public is encouraged to attend. Although the subject matter is dry, this is where the mayor, staff and ...

Ward 3 and City Update April 16, 2014

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

It has been an exceptionally busy time locally. The two zoning proposals unanimously passed the final reading at City Council last night and they move onto the mayor for signature. One ordinance covers the historic downtown and the other eliminates the demolition delay ordinance and creates a simpler demolition control ordinance on certain buildings and homes. Pretty much all that needs to be said and written on this topic already has. A great ...

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I’m a little tardy with an update, but things are moving quickly so just as I begin to write a message, things change!

Numerous revisions have been made on the downtown and demolition control ordinances. The revised ordinances protect the downtown business district but have had all residentially zoned 1, 2, and 3 family properties removed from the downtown measure. The demolition control ordinance changes t...

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The City Council will be holding an open forum on Tuesday January 28, 2014 at City Hall to listen to public comment about potential development on the NRA parcel of land on the Central waterfront. This meeting is a precursor to the February 5, 2014 meeting with the City Council, NRA and City staff. Both meetings are scheduled for 7:00 PM. Discussion may also include a proposed parking facility in the downtown. Yo...

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Just a pre-holiday update as the Council session ends.

I attended Wednesday’s meeting put on by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission regarding Seabrook Station. The owners, NextEra have applied to the NRC to have their operating license extended; it is currently due to expire in 2030 and they are asking that it be extended an additional twenty years until ...

Dear friends and neighbors,

We are entering the final stretch of the 2012-13 election term. The newly elected or reelected councillors, school committee and mayor will be sworn in on January 6, 2014.

As things wrap up in the final weeks of our session the tax rate needs to be set. The process is as follows; once the mayor’s office gets all the information from the state, present pr...

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you. Those two little words cannot sum up my gratitude for your support and trust. This election season was long and arduous but in speaking to Leslie shortly after the results were finalized, we agree, both our campaigns were conducted honorably and honestly.

I look forward to the challenges that are ahead and striv...

Election Day is almost here

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Tuesday November 5, 2013 is Election Day. I am running for reelection in order to continue to represent you on the City Council for Ward 3. I have, over my last two terms, successfully kept open lines of communication through my website and Email chain, so residents could know what is happening in their City and have a clear channel to voice comments, complaints and suggestions. Recently I added Facebook to my communication set, thanks in part ...

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

The Fuller Field article in the October 31 edition of the Daily News is light on details about the proposal and problems with the location. There was a very well attended meeting on Tuesday night. The City (desperately) needs to find a location for a 90 foot baseball field as it lost a field to the school building project at t...

Ward 3 and City update October 10, 2013

Posted by croninward3@gmail.com on October 11, 2013 at 3:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Friends and Neighbors,

Over the past four years I have demonstrated that I am a proactive City Councillor, but what does that really mean? Councillors attend the two Council meetings per month as well as attend to committee work (for me Public Safety, Budget & Finance and Rules), we interact with residents of the Ward and the City, attend various board or commission meetings as time and topic dictate and try to be a problem solver for residents. As a Councillor, I am a...
